Fisheries

We developed the Marine Resources Strategy for the Government of Jersey; examined the Brexit-impacts of tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade on Jersey’s fisheries industry; analysed trade flows for the UK shellfish sector; assessed the impacts of rules of origin requirements on the UK fishing industry; and reviewed the options for greater sustainability in global fisheries.

Trade

We examined the Brexit-impacts of tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade in the main UK farming systems and for Jersey’s agricultural industry; reviewed the impact to Jersey of the extension of the UK’s WTO membership; and analysed the negotiating positions for Jersey’s trade in goods and the potential impacts of future UK-EU trading arrangements on the jurisdiction’s support to business.

Farm animal welfare

We provide analysis for the Business Benchmark for Farm Animal Welfare; studied the economics and animal welfare implications of dairy mega-farms and the animal welfare benefits of UK and EU farm assurance schemes; assessed the impact of legislation to improve the welfare of animals during transport; and reviewed the role of economics in developing and appraising animal health and welfare policy.

Agricultural economics

We have assessed the options and functioning of support measures for agricultural businesses; evaluated rural development packages including the North West Livestock Programme; examined the options for Jersey’s abattoir and animal by-products; assessed the needs and potential of the Isle of Man pig industry; and reviewed the growth of the organic dairy industry in the UK.

Policy & regulation

We have reviewed policies and regulations for UK and Crown Dependency clients addressing areas including the regulation and control of genetically modified organisms (GMO), food security, livestock identification, and the application of State aid regulations.
